Admittedly the battery springs are black and the on/off switch is a little stiff but it still does its job.I've taken it apart twice over the years to clean it but aside from that no maintenance was done.I just bought two Bluetooth units for $15 a pieceASIN ‎B093KNZ3X9 which will allow me to sit in my living room or man cave while the air fryer oven cooks on the patio or the terrace.I'll keep this around as it still measures perfectly, the only problem being my ears aren't good anymore and it's hard to hear the alarm. If the new thermometers work out this will go to my cleaning lady like the slow cooker and convection toaster oven did.The habit here in Mexico is don't throw anything usable out, so I don't. I give it to someone who can use it.Page states that timer is white in color, item received was gray. Irritated that alarm sounds when device is turned on, even when temp sound is turned "off"Has large numbers and is easy to use.I have been playing "Chicken" with my oven clock for years. Oh, I have a nice oven, but I didn't go by "Temperature" Done, but Time when done. I've had my tasteof undone Chicken. It is some degree of hard and jiggly. I have had my taste ofdry. The choking is the hint. I've learned what great chicken is like by mysuccess and failures.Watching Alton Brown's show, I seen this probe with long cable to a Tempand Timer that was also magnetized to attach to the oven side. Well, Idecided to make a different purchase here with a couple dollars fromFREE Shipping. I found what seems like Alton's exact probe with cableand programmable Temp/Time Beeper box.I tested this with my thawed whole chicken breast (heart-shape with bone,)my store bought temp probe stick and programmable Temp and Timer oven.My first effort was flawed. I probed the chicken, move the cable closing thedoor and program the Temp for 170-degrees F (not 165.)The box beeped at 170-degrees F. However, the probe was peeking out the other side.It read the oven. How was I sure, my store-bought read "133" degrees F.I tried again, but the chicken reduced size, may be? I had a slightly higher temp withprobe peeking, again.Third time, it worked precisely. The store-bought probe read the same temperature.Think this was a fluke? I make homemade pizza that requires Water and Yeast.Water warms fast, so pizza isn't fun to make due to this. Too hot, it's a crossbetween pizza and beer taste. To the point, I suspended the probe in the water..away from the pot. The three-cups was at 100-degree F VERY FAST saving memore water. (more water, slower the temperature rise.NOTE: if you PRESS "START" button to stop, the Temperature willgo up or down -- so you know the TRUE Temp it is by the time youget to your food cooking.I hit the "START" button to stop the beeping; the TRUE Temp was112-113 degrees. Time I poured the water into my measuring cupand added the yeast, the temp was perfect. In short Pizza if fun, again.MANUFACTURE: make a device so the probe can be suspended say in wateror liquid. I had to McGiver a holder using Thongs and rubber bands. To conclude, my experience is NEW, but I am excited using this product. Is there a better product out there, I have no clue. "Good Eats" influencedme to but this foldable flat to mini lap top shape. I didn't get intohow the cable seems shorter. Still, it does the job. I use it for Temperatureprobe WARNING Beeps. I didn't get into how the Temp Probe counts UPthan say Down. (Think Soccer Scoreboard, Football) So, you should geta IDEA how long it will take next time. I didn't get into It can run as a TIMERalone. If you want to cook something to the PRECISE Temperature, this will do the job. I would recommend this product without question.I don’t know how I ever cooked before without this. I use it for both oven baking and pan frying. Food comes out perfectly cooked every time. This is the second one I purchased. The first one just suddenly stopped working in spite if new batteries but this second one is doing just fine. I’ve had it for more than a year.Easy to use accurateEven with a thermometer that's intended to measure food temperature (rather than oven temperature), the loud and persistent alarm can be annoying, and if you're going to be sitting/standing right next to the oven/grill you can just check it every so often, just as you would with an instant-read thermometer -- so you don't need an alarm. While reading food temperature, it increases -- and, unless the heat source is turned off, doesn't DEcrease, so the alarm only sounds once, when the food reaches the set temperature.Using it as an ambient temperature, oven fluctuates: the heat source stays on until the oven reaches the set temperature, but even after it goes off the heat continues to rise until the heat source is completely off (particularly bad with electric elements) -- and the alarm sounds. Then, after the heat source goes off, the temperature drifts down til it passes the set point, at which the alarm finally stops, and the heat source comes on again -- and then the temperature increases until it crosses the set point ... and the alarm sounds again. Repeat until food is done. AAARRGGGGHHH!NONE of the other thermometers I looked at HAD A WAY TO DISABLE THE ALARM COMPLETELY. This one does: look on the far right, between the probe jack and the on/off switch, and you'll see another switch labeled "TEMP ALERT" with ON and OFF settings!Maybe this isn't an issue for you: it is for me, and I've given up on dial and tube thermometers, because they get hard to read as the glass darkens (dial) or the scale is burned away (tube). I've been using a digital thermometer for my grill for years, and it's been reliable and the only parts that are exposed to the heat are the probe (metal) and cable (metal mesh or -- as in the case of this thermometer -- silicone). The electronics stay outside, safe from the heat.Have yet to use it, but based on my experience with the digital thermometer I already have it should be accurate. I can already say that it's easy to use -- even easier than the one I already own.Wasn’t sure about this, but want a temperature monitor and probe so I wouldn’t have to keep checking it. Perfect, set the desired temperature, and forget it..loud beep when it’s ready. Long cable, ez to use and love that it sticks to stove, cooker, fridge while in use.I have had mine for over 6 months and use it all the time. We now have succulent slow roasted meat that is still cooked to our taste (rare) and jam sets every time. All the cooks in the family have been getting one for a present. This is the 2nd one we’ve bought. We gave our first one to our daughter. It’s easy to use and very accurate for roasting times. We use for any size roast, pork, beef ham and turkey. Just follow the instructions. After inserting the thermometer probe in the meat, put your roast in the oven. No worries about the coated wire attached to the probe it’s is long enough to reach the digital monitor. The digital monitor can rest on the counter or with its magnetic back to the outside of one’s oven.Definitely recommend this product.Around 5 years back I bought a digital thermometer and timer made by Taylor, it worked well for five years, but I dropped it by accident and the speaker broke. I seen another one of their products when I replaced the one that broke. About 5 weeks after I got it the buttons stopped working I contacted Taylor and they sent me a replacement no questions asked other then the shipping address they should send it to. the replacement just arrived today and I am happy with it. So in my mind they get 5 stars for promptly replacing the one that was broke. and if and when this one breaks I will replace it with another one of Taylor's products.hope this helps R L.Well now it is Feb 1 2022 and the same failure has just happened with a little less then a year of use. thermometer still works but start/stop and hour buttons for the timer no longer work again. Guess I just got lucky with the first one that lasted 5 years.
