The product doesn’t ringThere is no buzzer when timer is finished. Looks great. Wish it worked.I like this mechanical egg timer because it needs no batteries, is simple to use, and does not need to be immersed in boiling water with the eggs. I am also quite pleased with the very attractive stainless steel "shell." This timer is just the right size, and I photographed it with a standard egg for size comparison. To set the timer alarm, turn the top of the egg to the left, all the way around until the number "55" (don't go past "55" or the spring will be wound too tightly) is positioned above the black arrowhead. The instructions use the terms "turn clockwise" (instead of left), and "turn counterclockwise" (instead of right), which I found a bit confusing while holding a 3-dimensional object. So, I prefer the terms "turn left" and "turn right." As the egg top is turned to the left, the ratcheting sound and feel indicates that the spring is being wound. Then, turn the egg top back to the right to set the desired number of minutes, smoothly placing the number over the black arrowhead. When the time has expired, a mechanical alarm, much like on a mechanical alarm clock, will sound for three seconds. The alarm is not particularly loud, but it gets the job done. When I soft-boil eggs, I wait until the water is boiling before I insert the eggs into the water. If the eggs are simply dropped into the boiling water, the eggshell will often crack when it hits the bottom of the pan, so I use a slotted spoon to gently place the eggs in the water. Then I set the egg timer for four minutes for a perfect soft-boiled egg. This timer makes the process nice and easy.
