I ordered this single zone timer from Insoma specifically to use as a manual, easy set timer for fill in irrigation needs. It has been filling that function without any concerns. Install the 2 AA alkaline batteries ( the same as every other irrigation timer that I have) into the back of the case, close it up and you are ready to start your setup. I will note that I had some reservations initially about the battery cover since there isn't any lock or latch feature. I would still like to have that feature for security but also know that none of the dozen irrigation timers which I currently have and in use incorporate a locking feature on the battery cover. All of them, just like this Insoma, depend on the tight friction fit created with the molded rubber seal. I have never had one fall apart nor leak, although I understand why that could be a concern. Set up is very easy, and is identical in logic programming used on some other brands of irrigation timers. I have a two zone and a four zone which use the same sequenced programming and never have any difficulty understanding and completing it. The clock is set for 24 hour. Not AM/PM So the start time is also in that mode. If you want to start watering at 2 PM you will enter 14:00. Manual mode is very easy. Press the manual faucet icon and it shows on the screen the hour and minute times, with the hour flashing '0'. If you press OK then it just skips to minutes. Press + or - to increase or decrease minutes. Set that where you want and press OK to start the timer. Super simple. When you use it a 2nd time in manual mode it will load the value you previously used ( like 01:05 which is 1 hour 5 minutes) so you can change it, or not. In any case you still have to press OK twice, even if you don't need to change anything. I have timers with both plastic fittings and metal fittings. I would prefer metal fittings, however I also understand that all of the internal timer elements are likely plastic, so one may have a brass fitting but that fitting is usually connected onto or retained in a plastic body piece. I have no concerns with plastic components except for me over tightening the hose connection fitting and causing the flange nut to fracture. Yes, I have done that on hose splitters but not yet on a timer..
