I love this thing! I use it for work, school, chores. Everything in between. I love that it goes up to 2 hrs, and it is in minutes. The sound makes people jump at work, so make sure you warn them what you're doing if you're going to use it around others. And at times and I wish I could put a different sound in to switch it up so I don't start ignoring it. (ADHD problems, am I right?) If you are struggling with getting tasks done in a certain time frame or struggling with staying on a schedule I recommend you try this out!Great timer. It helps sooooo much to get the kid to do things. They respond so well to a time limit when they can see the countdown. My only issue is that the timer alarm only beeps 4 times. It's very quick. If you are not directly near it, you may miss it. Yes it's portable, but would be 5-stars if it went off for like 10 seconds.Good for kids in keeping them on task . 3 twenty minute increments are more helpful than 1 sisty minute timer. It makes them feel like they are getting 3 of something instead of one of something. It is a good time span for a kid’s attention span. One quick look and you know. Time Timer works great a meetings where speakers have time restraints. We use it at our AA meetings. As a Certified Toast Master we are train to use timers in our heads. Now, we don't need to look at the clock and do the math to figure out how much time is left, just look at the Time Timer and we know. It would be better if only it had a 2 minute working go off prior to time running out... maybe someday they will create a warning time- Time Timer. ha haJust got my Time Timer Plus today and the verdict is... I absolutely LOVE it!!! 10 stars!!I had spent quite some time researching all kinds of timers on Amazon before I decided on this one. My original search was for a "Pomodoro" type timer, as this was the recommended time management technique I wanted to follow. However, after looking at lots of tomatoes, chickens, eggs, and other critter-shaped kitchen timers and reading all kinds of reviews I steered away from the mechanical timers. I discovered that most of them (if not all) are making a "ticking" sound when counting down, which could be very annoying and distracting, especially when you are trying to concentrate on your work. Then I looked at a bunch of digital timers and read lots of reviews on those. But digital timers display... well... digits, and don't give you a clear and instant at-a-glance realization of how much time has elapsed and how much time you've got left, especially for a "visual" kind of person (I am one). You have to stop and "process" in your mind what those digits mean. Plus, it becomes almost a part-time job constantly setting it all up and resetting it if you want to follow the "Pomodoro" technique, which is (25 minutes work + 5 minute break) x 4 = 1 cycle, and you do several of these cycles per day... You'd need to push the 'minutes' button until you've set the desired number of minutes, then push the 'seconds' button to set the seconds, and after the time is up and you want to set it for a 5 minute break (per "Pomodoro" technique), you'll need to re-set and re-push all those buttons again, and then, after a 5 minute break, repeat all the button-pushing to set it up for another 25 minute period of work, and on and on... PLUS, a lot of the reviews I read mentioned that those digital timers had a very loud and unpleasant "shrill" when the time is up. Again, not something you'd want to hear multiple times a day every day (if you do "Pomodoro").And THEN I found this one. And what a beauty it is! :-) The size (I got a 7 inch one, but there are also 3, 8, and 12 inch ones) is small enough to sit on your desk and large enough to glance at from a distance when you're taking a break. It's an "analog" type clock face (my kind of clock), but there are no hands. Instead, a red area that magically disappears as the timer counts down gives you an instant and very visual recognition of how much time you've got left. It is absolutely silent, and only at the end it gives you 4 "beep-beep" sounds. You can adjust the loudness of this beep sound, or even make it completely silent, on the back panel. The timer needs 1 AA battery (not included). There is no on/off switch and it's not intended for you to take the battery in and out (the battery cover is secured with a screw). So the timer just "lives" with the battery in it, like a regular clock or flashlight or CD player would. All it takes to "operate" it is to turn the knob in the center of the clock face to adjust the "red area" to your desired time (up to 60 minutes). Then you just let go and the timer is already working. You see time elapsing "with a quarz watch precision" as the red area takes less and less of the clock face and finally disappears into the "zero".Bottom line: PERFECT for time recognition and time management, from kids to grown-ups! (Now my husband wants one for himself, too!)I got this for my classroom as a replacement timer. I love how there is a visual way for the children to understand how much time is left. But the beeping is very soft, even when turned all the way up. I wish there was a way to make it louder.I really liked the concept. And it worked well. If I would have kept it on a shelf out of reach of my two year old it would still be working. But we were enjoying using it hands-on. We must have dropped it too many times because it no longer works- even with a new battery. Perhaps this would be good for a four year old child…The dial has a lot of play in it. So the accuracy isn’t quite there. +/- maybe 3 min. To get better accuracy, When setting the time duration, continue forward and stop at the time you want. Do not try to go back if you pass it as the time will be off. If you need to go back as you over shot your desired time, you will need rotate clockwise to reduce time. Rotate further than desired time, and then rotate back back to desired time. I have two version of this this timer – the one hour and the 5 minute. First off, if you want an analog timer clock with a "pie chart" display for short periods of time (5 minutes and less), this is pretty much your only choice. It runs almost silently (you'd have to put your ear right up next to it to hear the rapid ticking) and the alarm volume (four double-beeps) can be adjusted smoothly, from silent to loud. For a one-hour mechanism, there are other options using a similar red display, however, mostuse a clockwork kitchen timer mechanism, run for an hour, and end with a loud mechanical bell. The Time Timer is based on a quartz mechanism, and is battery-powered. Note that the elapsed time display disappears to the right. This may seem a little counterintuitive – I would have preferred if a countdown ran counterclockwise, as it does on most kitchen timers – but this seems to be limited by the typical quartz clock movement. The red and black is attractive and very visible. If there is a criticism, it is the rather sloppy mechanism. For a device that is supposed to give a visual sense of time, it doesn't give it very accurately. For example, on the five-minute timer, setting it to the full five minutes means turning the dial to a "nearly full" position, which should correspond to about 4m55s, but ends up being a couple of seconds more than 5 minutes. When setting the dial to other times, it is typically correct to within 5-10 seconds. Depending on how you set it (for example, if you overshoot the time then turn back), it may take a few seconds for the dial to start moving at all, and when most of the time has elapsed and the green indicator has disappeared, it is several more seconds before the alarm sounds. The one-hour timer gives a larger delay – you might wait 30 seconds after the red marker has disappeared before you hear the alarm. It is strange that a device using a quartz movement (accurate to a few seconds a week) can't get a minute about right. However, if "about a minute" or "about five minutes" is good enough, this timer is delightfully simple to use, and more intuitive than other, more button-laden options. Was recommended by our child psychologist for our 4 year old who is having some behaviour issues. Works great for him, also works great for the 2/6/7 year olds. Having a visual timer works amazing for many reasons. Wish we had this 5 years ago!!
