The hardest part was isolating the problem. Removing the old and installing the new part was the challenge. It was at the bottom front behind the removable grill (easy), but access to the mounting screws was a real challenge (1/16” turns took patience). Note this was due to the refrigerator design not the part itself. The part is working great!! Saved lots of $$ (didn’t have to replace frig). This worked perfect. You tube is ur friend to trouble shoot problemI have a Frigidaire FRT18HB5JW4. The Defrost timer locked up at 2:30 am last Sunday morning, that was my favorite part. The fridge started making this very loud buzzing noise, could hear it all over the house. Noise was a lot louder when you opened the fridge door. I followed the noise back to inside the fridge compartment inside an access panel next to the light and the thermostat. I removed the old one and looked it up on google. This came up as a replacement. A YouTube video said if the defrost timer stopped working you could manually trigger the timer by using a flat head screw driver to turn the exposed wheel. the gray thing, until it clicked. I did and when I plugged it back into the fridge the buzzing stopped and fridge ran normally. This method got me through the two days until Amazon could ship the replacement to me. Installed in about 30 seconds, no big deal. Hopefully it will out last the 10 year old fridge. This timer is a shorter duration(6 hours) than the original (10 hours), also the defrost cycle is only 21 minutes rather than 44 minutes. Another reviewer said this didn't seem to effect the fridges operation. I will update if I notice anything.Easy fix, plug in exactAfter tracking down that the defrost timer was the culprit of the refrigerator not running, I ordered and installed this replacement part. Upon installing it, plugged it in and all that I had was the interior light working. Checked the back connections since nothing was happening...at all. Discovered that the defrost timer was in the "Defrost mode" from the factory, so a minor tweak of the timer gear using a flat blade screwdriver made it click out of defrost, and all is well. Make sure it is out of the defrost cycle when installing it.I have a top freezer refrigerator and my fridge was not cooling. Found that the freezer was not defrosting. After research I thought it was the defrost thermostat, but found one youtube video where there should that the defrost timer is the problem. Sure enough, when I turned the defrost timer with a screw driver, the defroster started warming up.Its a very easy swap as well. Saved me from getting a new fridge at least for a few more years.Plug and play, very easy to use. worked well and I feel like a handy badass! If the fan and compressor stops running, check this by using a screwdriver to turn. If the condenser fan starts running after turning, this item is bad.
