We needed a safe way to charge our E-Bike batteries without fear of over charging or worse yet, possibly something catching fire. This timer fits the bill perfectly. It is a bit bulky and does not fit easily in a shallow electrical box. I recommend a deep electrical box to ease installation. Installation instructions were easy to follow. You push one button to cycle through the time options or use it to turn the timer off.Replaced a dial timer with this one. Great switch. Highly recommend them. I used it for a whole house fan! Fantastic!I made mine into a portable timer, in a double plastic electrical box. I used an IEC 320 connector so I could have a removable power cord. I have used it so far to turn off outside portable lights and inside table fans. I am surprised Woods did not use binary, and have this be a 15 hour timer. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9 etc instead of 1-2-4-8. Same indicators could be used, just add the hours in your head, 1 + 2 = 3, 8+4+2+1 = 15. Will have to wait to comment on reliability. Our roof cables were not working well to prevent ice dams; I thought it was because the old-fashioned mechanical timer-switch only allowed a 30-minute run time*, and I bought this as a replacement. It does exactly what it says it does --- allows me with the touch of a button to turn on the cables for a one-hour, two-hour, four-hour or eight-hour run. It's crowded in a standard junction box, but easily installed in a deep one. Wiring is easy, but access to the white ("cold") wire is needed -- so it may have to be created if the box has the white wire as an un-tapped run-through. As others have noted, the face relief is shallow, so spacers under the mounting screws may be needed to make a faceplate seat properly. There was no faceplate provided (they cost a couple bucks and are readily available); wire nuts were provided, but were too small if more than two wires were being joined. It comes in a few different time-ranges, so it's pretty versatile; it works quite nicely once installed. It's both nicer and less expensive than the ones I found in big-box home/hardware stores. If it proves durable, I'll be very, very pleased with it; I've already bought another.(*it turned out that it was also incorrectly installed)I purchased this to run a small whole house fan which ratings are well below the timers requirements. Had set the fan to run for 2 hours one time but it was still on in the morning and reset itself to run 8 hours. Shut off power to reset the timer which worked, but after sever weeks of part time operation now it won't turn on at all. Ordered a Leviton wall timer, about $40. It costs more but I'm hoping it does better than the Woods. Its power ratings are better than the Woods also.Had them installed for a while and all seems fine. I hope they last.I have a couple of the Leviton timers that have lasted for at least 6 years or so. I prefer them because each time setting is a button and there is an off button. But at twice the price I had to look for an alternative unit. If these last at least 5 years I'll be pretty happy with them. The only button on these is a little small, smaller than their logo to make a point. That's my only real con against this one.I like using these kinds of timers for bathroom fans and outdoor lights that are high wattage. They can save a lot of power.I also have one set up in a box that I can plug the cordless drill chargers into. Tool batteries last so much longer when you don't overcharge them.I bought 2 of this wall switch electronic digital timer a few weeks ago & it's a disappointing unit. The looks are great. It seems to work okay. But it was TOO BIG TO PROPERLY FIT the wall box so my electrician had to do the best he could to make it look "just okay" (OR: spend about an hour taking everything out of the box, replacing the box with a larger box, then reinstalling units in the new box). Our condo' is about 40 years old so, if you have older wiring like that, you don't want this timer because your wall box is probably small like mine. The other disappointment was that, unlike the Leviton timer (which I also bought & like a lot better) YOU CAN'T JUST PUSH THE BUTTON FOR THE TIME YOU WANT it to run the fan or ~~~, YOU HAVE TO CYCLE THROUGH OTHER SETTINGS in some cases. For ex., in hot weather I run the whole house fan for 8 hours while we sleep----which means I have to push the bottom button FOUR TIMES to set it. What "kills me" is that one reviewer mentioned this requirement for multiple pushes so I EMAILED WOODS & they assured me that this "cycling process" to set the time was NOT the case & that you could simply push the button for the amount of time you wanted. So I ordered two of them. The Woods person was either lying or had difficulty grasping my question . . . . . . I RECOMMEND THE LEVITON TIMER. I strongly doubt I'll ever get another Woods timer. No wonder my local Ace Hardware quit stocking these Woods timers years ago! TWO STARS is all I can give this one.Echoing what other users have said. This device does not fit correctly in a Decora faceplate. I just spent an hour adjusting and re-adjusting the mounting screws, but cannot get it to sit square in the hole, and flush with the faceplate.Looks pretty scabby in main guest bathroom. If it was in kids bathroom or garage, may not be as big of a deal. It may fit better on a single gang box?Despite the claims made by the manufacturer, this timer and its counterparts are not properly compatible with a standard Leviton or other Decora wall plate. The wall plate rocks on the timer retaining screws because the design is flawed. The timer's fixing ears are set too far forward in relation to the front face of the timer, and it is impossible to achieve the correct relationship of the timer to the wall plate. The ears cannot be bent, at to do so upsets the position of the wall plate retaining screws and causes them to sit proud of the face of the wall plate. It is next to impossible to install them flat and neatly in relation to the wall plate.Furthermore, the colour described as "white" is actually off-white and does not blend properly with a standard white wall plate. The design of these timers is fundamentally flawed, although the timers themselves operate satisfactorily.Time the block heater or old style battery charger (smart ones don't like -30C) so you don't forget to shut it down when the plans change. Simple to install as long as you don't try to make it perfectly square (too wide for clearing the box retaining screws); but it uses real contacts relay, so it works with motors (fans, pumps etc.) as well.I chose this switch as it has easy to use buttons and has a long time settings. Most other switches stop after an hour or so. Having it run up to 8hrs is a nice touch.Hs about 8hrs of exhaust time is remarkable
