Trust the eggy, but have that ice bath ready if you're going for medium boiled eggs. Once it gets to the medium doneness, eggs progresses quickly to hard boiled. My only issue is that the timer can be hard to see in the boiling water. I have to use tongs to move it closer to the surface to read it.Works great for hard cooked or soft cooked eggs, and you can step away for a minute, knowing that the water temp is monitored by the device.I tried doing it on my own for a long time, but every time I did it, I always ended up with green overcooked eggs. I'm the kind of guy who needs to have 6 eggs a day, 5 dozen eggs every two weeks. Every Sunday I prep my food for the week and that includes boiling 30 eggs at once. If I am going to eat this many eggs, I would like to have them in a way that makes it easy for me to enjoy and in an instant for a quick filling meal. I did some minor research and found this egg timer. They are exactly as described, but the instructions should be followed carefully.Before using, it's really important to boil this product alone, without the eggs, at least twice. I believe this really sets the standard for the egg timer to understand the environment. Never place in cold water after taking out from the boiling water. I feel like there are elements in this timer that are in "mood rings." Mood rings use temperature to change color and when you run it under cold water all of a sudden, it changes to all these different colors and messes it up.When I boil my eggs, I add the timer, add the eggs around it, and then add the cold water going about an inch higher than the eggs. I have a glass top stove that I set to medium-high heat UNCOVERED. I check on it every 5-10 minutes until the egg timer is completely WHITE. I've done this for several weeks and my eggs are perfect everytime. I love to have that perfect hard yellow on the inside. I imagine this would make for those perfect deviled eggs that I never have time to create. I am very grateful for the invention of this product and that I can cook amazing eggs every Sunday!have for long time and still workWorks like my old one that broke, haven't had any issues other than the plasticy smell that occurs right away but disappears pretty quickly. My previous one was similar and red from the inside that was bang on accurate so I really wouldn't reccommend this to anyone.Love it, had one for years, use it weekly and recently bought one for a friend, who is obsessed! If you pour out the hot water and fill it with cold straight away it stops the cooking so less likely to go over your "desired runnieness"What can I say? This works well and takes the guesswork out of getting eggs cooked just right. Very useful if you have someone who likes eggs just barely cooked so that the white has set but the yolk is totally runny. Also good for getting eggs hard-boiled without going over to being black in the middle.I use this to time boiled eggs - but it is not always easy to see when the egg(s) reachthe time line through the water.Love my eggy !
