Description

The Woods 50009WD Indoor 7-Day Heavy Duty Digital Timer offers a variety of programming features that help make your life easy. You can set your timers differently each day, or treat weekdays differently than weekends. There’s even a random setting that may be useful if you’re worried about leaving your house empty. Program lights to turn on at random times to simulate that someone’s home. Save energy and money by programming appliances such as heaters and air conditioners to turn on and off exactly when needed. The two outlets also allow you to program two appliances rather than just one. The timer works with LED and compact fluorescent lights.

My mistake is that when it arrived I was talking with a friend, opened it, threw away the packaging and didn't try plugging it in right away to confirm it worked. I laid it aside and didn't try to program it until 2 days later. The timer did not come on, but it did get very warm. Warm enough that I would be uncomfortable using if it got that warm all the time without having any devices plugged in.So I wasted my money by throwing away the packaging (totally my mistake) and should have come back and read the reviews (I had put this in my cart some time ago). Disappointing waste of money for a device that is completely dead. I will try to return, but I doubt they will take it back.Update 05/21/14:After checking on Amazon's return (only with original packaging) I didn't even try to send this back. However, I had laid it down on the counter and it was knocked off by one of the cats onto a tile floor. I always have hope that any electrical device will forget it's broken and plugged it in. I had pressed the reset button the first time when it arrived DOA, but got nothing. This time however, it did come on (to be fair, it's possible I may not have held the reset button in long enough the first time). Anyway, it came on, I programmed it and tried it out last night. At this point, I can only change it to two stars, as I don't like how warm the device gets. I have another timer (not heavy duty) from APC that allows four things to be plugged in with a timer that controls all four and it doesn't get warm at all. Perhaps I'm being silly but a device that is plugged in and operating all the time makes me nervous when it's quite warm to the touch. And perhaps it being a heavy duty timer has something to do with it. So at this time, I'm still unsure of whether I will continue to use or not. If you own one and yours does or does not get warm, please leave feedback. It might help others. Thanks and good luck with whatever you choose to buy!Update 02/05/15:I've had plenty of time to use this device. I only have some colored rope & led lights hooked into it - so nothing that uses a lot of electricity. The device still works, I've had no issues with it, I still don't like how warm it gets. I upgraded it to four stars since I've had no other problems & it works. I have another device that does a similar thing and it does not get warm (it's also easier to work manually). That one also holds more devices - though this one is more programmable - so what type you get will depend on your needs. I think both are handy to have for certain items and when you go out of town. I still wish I could find one that had multiple ports and you could program each port in a different way (some on all the time and some turn on at a certain time). So far, I haven't found something like that - so maybe it's simply not feasible.
